6 Things I Wish I Told My Partner If They Were to Pass Tomorrow

ree

The other day, I saw a friend post on Instagram that her husband had suddenly passed away in a car accident. My heart sank. It reminded me just how fragile life is — how quickly everything can change. It also made me think about all the things we never say out loud to the people we love, the things we assume they already know but deserve to hear. I’ve felt this regret before, wishing I had one more chance to tell my grandpa how much he inspired me every day. So, if I could sit down and tell my partner the things that matter most, these are the words I wouldn’t want to leave unsaid.

1. “You Made My Life Better Just by Being in It”

It’s easy to take for granted how much someone brightens our world. I’d want my partner to know that their presence alone made the hard days easier and the good days unforgettable.

2. “I Admire You More Than You Realize”

We often forget to share the little things we admire — their work ethic, kindness, patience, or sense of humor. Letting your partner know that you see them fully is one of the deepest forms of love.

3. “Thank You for Loving Me at My Worst”

We’re not always easy to love. But when someone stays through the storms, they deserve to know how much that loyalty means. Gratitude is something we should say more often, not just assume.

4. “You Helped Me Grow Into Who I Am”

Partners shape us in ways we don’t always notice. Whether it’s pushing us to dream bigger, calming our anxieties, or showing us new perspectives, their impact is lasting — even after they’re gone.

5. “I Forgive You — and I Hope You Forgive Me Too”

No relationship is perfect. We argue, we hurt, we misunderstand. But in the end, love outweighs the mistakes. Saying I forgive you frees both hearts from carrying what doesn’t matter anymore.

6. “You Were My Safe Place”

Above all, I’d want my partner to know they were home for me — the place I could be my truest self, without judgment, without fear. That kind of love is rare and deserves to be spoken.

Life doesn’t always give us the time we think we’ll have. If tomorrow never comes, I want the people I love to know these things — that they mattered, that they changed me, that they were cherished. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Tell your partner, your parents, your friends. Love spoken out loud is the greatest gift we can leave behind.

Love Rubie xoxo
